English Study in Australia

Akari from Japan studies English at GEOS Queensland College of English at the Gold Coast in Queensland.

Why did you choose Australia?

I wanted to try something different. It is another lifestyle than in my home country Japan and the people are very easy-going. I like that everything is easier here. It is very different to Japan. 

And why did you choose the Gold Coast?

A friend of mine has already been to the Gold Coast. She told me a lot of good things about it and I eventually decided to go to the Gold Coast as well. It is very vibrant and a lot of young people live here, I like that very much.

How do you feel being and studying in a foreign country?

At the beginning it was very hard. But I found a lot of friends and now I know my way around. All the people are very helpful and polite, even if your English is not the best.

How can you handle the language?

Good. I have learned a lot of English at the language school. On top of that I have met many people from all around the world here. That is the reason why I speak English, even in my time away from school.

What is it like being a language student?

I have a lot of fun. The teachers and the students are very nice and we have a really good time together.

What are you doing in your leisure time?

I work at a restaurant after school. On the weekends I usually go to the beach with some friends or do some daytrips to beautiful places in the area.

Do you have some tips for people who think about coming to Australia?

The first month that I came here, I used to live in a home stay family. I would recommend this to everybody, because it is a good chance to get to know the country and the people.


What do you think of the Australian people?

It is hard to understand their accent sometimes, but they are always very friendly, whether they are at the supermarket or on the street.

Is there anything you would like to add?

Who wants to combine fun and studying should come to Australia. It is a very diverse country and you can do a lot of different things.
